In vitro evaluation of the antiproliferative activity of Carpobrotus edulis on human neuroblastoma cells

Neuroblastoma is a solid neuroendocrine tumour located outside the cranial cavity and contributes about 15% of all cancer‑associated deaths in children. Treatment neuroblastoma quite challenging involves use chemotherapy, surgery radiotherapy. Despite treatment strategies, systemic toxicity are setbacks to patient well-being, hence need for new affordable approach. Medicinal plants importance field drug discovery cancer as some notable anti-cancer agents have been isolated from them. In present study, activity aqueous extract Carpobrotus edulis (C. edulis), ground-creeping edible medicinal plant was investigated SK-N-BE(2) SH-SY5Y cells. The effect C. on cell viability survival determined using MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]−2,5 diphenyltetrazolium bromide) clonogenic assays respectively. Apoptosis Caspase-9 assay kit flow cytometry used measure intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) depolarization mitochondrial membrane potential. results show that inhibits (IC50 0.86 mg/ml 1.45 SHSY5Y cells respectively) colony formation well induce apoptosis, which evidenced by an increase caspase-9 also led loss potential increased production ROS. Collectively, these suggest induces death via induction mitochondrial‐mediated apoptosis accumulation ROS, thus providing rationale further investigations.
